Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, faces charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda, the U.S Department of Justice said in a statement. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

The FBI said the public was not in danger because the explosives provided to?Nafis?were never in working condition and the suspect was closely monitored by the undercover agent - highlighting a script law enforcement has employed several times this year in similar cases, including one in Washington and another in?Ohio.

White House?spokesman?Jay Carney?said President?Barack Obama?had been briefed about the arrest.

"Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure," said?Mary Galligan, FBI acting assistant director-in-charge. "The defendant faces appropriately severe consequences."

Verizon-bound Nokia Lumia 822 surfaces in leaked photos

Verizon-bound Nokia Lumia 822 surfaces in leaked photos

We caught a glimpse of a Verizon-branded Windows Phone 8 handset by the name of Atlas in a leaked image yesterday, and now new photos give us a closer look at the smartphone. According to WMPoweruser, who received the photos from a tipster, the device is a Nokia Lumia 820 variant and will be exclusive to Big Red as the Lumia 822. Though it's riffed on its progenitor's design, the mobile will keep the same 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. There's still no official word from Verizon or Nokia regarding the phone, but we expect that to change relatively soon.

3 Easy Billiards Tips That Will Make A Difference ? hot news ...

Reading about the tips and tricks of the pro billiard players can boost your game. There are many challenges your mind will face on a billiard table, knowing what to expect can help you be prepared. The unfamiliar shots that can show up suddenly pose challenges in any billiards game. But the more you study and practice, then you will be that much more confident about what you can do. When you have more confidence, then you will be more relaxed and able to make more shots. This article offers three powerful billiards tips that will give your game a better edge. Like so many other individual performance sports, we have our good days and others that are not as good as we wished. That is totally normal in all sports. Nevertheless the people who take the opportunity are able to stay at peace, acknowledge what is taking place, scrutinize the events, and make the correct alterations.

So if you happen to be having an off-day or game, then be responsiveness. What you can do is transform your principal method, or shift it, to one that is more old-fashioned. If you are already an old school player, then just play things a tad more harmless than you generally would. It?s often said that affecting follow of the cue by hitting it above center is best. There are of course other methods to handling follow through. Develop a refined follow by striking the cue ball with a motion that comes across fluid. At the same time use the short impact and strike above center as always. Your accuracy and control will improve if you are not above center and your hand and arm are relaxed and follow through is smooth. Line up straight with the cue during your aim and setup. You only have two options for cue movement, straight forward and straight backwards both in a linear movement or line of travel. While aiming your shot you will want a straight line of site to address the target ball where you want the cue ball to strike it. It?s not a great idea to go for any effect that concerns power or the degree of force used to strike the cue ball. You will only set yourself up for failure if you use too much power and miss the shot all together. Occasionally, you will see and read dissimilar and ostensibly incompatible billiards clues for the same thing. Or, there are small differentiations as far as clues go for playing in a distinctive manner or making a move. If you aren?t certain, or speculate, about what is optimal, then all you need to do is try some things out. Yes, test out your own experiments and find out which recommendations bode well for you. We all have differences, and there could be a piece of one recommendation that goes well with your style better than the other. Please refer to this website for information on employment and paralegal salary expectations.

Canada, U.S. launch project to strengthen border security

cross border

Report an error

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will launch a project on Monday to improve border security.

Under the pilot project, the two government agencies say they will "exchange data currently collected on third-country nationals -- those who are neither citizens of Canada nor of the U.S., permanent residents of Canada and lawful permanent residents of the United States" at the Pacific Highway in Surrey, B.C. and Blaine, Washington; Douglas (Peace Arch), Surrey, B.C. and in Blaine; the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge in Niagara-on-the Lake, Ont. and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in Lewiston, NY, and the Niagara Falls Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls and the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, NY.

"As outlined in the Beyond the Border Action Plan, our governments are committed to maintaining the integrity of our shared border," Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, said in a statement Friday. "This sharing of entry and exit information will play a key part in bolstering border security."

In a press release, the CBSA said "a coordinated entry/exit system will help the U.S. and Canada identify persons who potentially overstay their lawful period of admission, track the departure of persons subject to removal orders, and verify that residency requirements are being met by applicants for continued eligibility in immigration programs.

"The process of collecting and sharing personal information will be done in accordance with each country's privacy laws and policies."

New insights on control of pituitary hormone outside of brain has implications for breast cancer

ScienceDaily (Sep. 30, 2012) ? The hormone prolactin is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain and then travels via the bloodstream to cells throughout the body, where it exerts multiple reproductive and metabolic effects, most notably on the breast where it is the master regulator of lactation. In recent years researchers have found that prolactin is also produced by some tissues outside the brain, however little is known about the functions of extra-pituitary prolactin or how its production is regulated in these tissues.

Now, the laboratory of Lewis A. Chodosh, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Cancer Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, reports in Genes & Development that activation of the PI3K-Akt oncogenic signaling pathway in the mammary glands of mice rapidly induces cells in the breast itself to produce prolactin. This, in turn, triggers Stat5 activation, mammary epithelial differentiation and milk production in virgin mice within a matter of hours.

"Remarkably, these changes occur in the absence of any of the complex hormonal changes or developmental programs that normally accompany pregnancy" explains Chodosh.

Consistent with a physiological role for prolactin outside of the brain, the Penn team found that mice bearing mutant Akt genes fail to activate Stat5 or initiate lactation when they give birth due to an inability to synthesize and secrete prolactin in the mammary gland, despite normal levels of circulating prolactin in the blood.

These findings provide the first demonstration that the synthesis and secretion of mammary gland prolactin is regulated by PI3K-Akt signaling and identify a physiological function for extra-pituitary prolactin during a critical developmental stage that is essential for the survival of mammalian offspring.

What's more, prolactin has long been thought to play a role in human breast cancer, however this has typically been assumed to be due to circulating prolactin produced by the pituitary. Since the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway is commonly activated in human cancers, this new finding suggests the important possibility that prolactin produced by the breast itself may play a role in breast cancer. In fact, mammary prolactin has been detected in some human breast cancers. As such, investigators have proposed that prolactin produced by the mammary gland -- rather than by the pituitary -- may play a direct role in the development of breast cancer, for example by providing pro-growth or pro-survival signals to cancer cells in the breast. Accordingly, anti-cancer drugs aimed at blocking the effects of prolactin are currently under development.

"Since the PI3K-Akt pathway is one of the most commonly activated oncogenic pathways in human cancer, its identification as an upstream regulator of prolactin production in the mammary gland has intriguing potential implications for understanding the pathology of human breast cancer and as well as improving its treatment," notes Chodosh.
