Benzema caught speeding over 70 mph over limit

MADRID (AP) - Spanish police say Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was caught speeding at more than 70 mph over the limit.
Police say Benzema has been charged with reckless driving after being caught going 134 mph in a 62 mph zone in Madrid on Feb. 3. Police say the France international faces losing his license and a fine.
In June 2011, Benzema was fined for reckless driving when police caught him racing through the city on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza.
Madrid plays Barcelona on Saturday in the Spanish league before visiting Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The (Unlucky) 13 Traits Of High-Maintenance People
Seeing David Williams? Confessions of a High Maintenance CEO is making me laugh (somewhat in humor, but also in guilt.) Most CEOs are high maintenance. However, most every business has been riddled at one time or another with the issues of chronically (and negatively) high maintenance people at work.

These situations are not the ebb and flow of creative energy, but the result of unhealthy people producing a toxic energy drain. High maintenance people can also be overwhelming as friends. Ironically, their tendency to lose friends contributes even further to their inclination to latch onto ?people targets? at work.

1 -They have urgent ?needs.? To a high maintenance personality, everything is urgent. Every piece of email needs to be copied to someone in authority and every action needs to be passed by the boss before they proceed.
The 5 second solution: ?How do you intend to solve that problem?? Teach your employees to come to you with ideas and solutions for your feedback, but that your door and inbox are not open for dropping their challenges into your lap.
2 ? They have a sense of entitlement. Everyone deserves to be treated with equal respect. The high maintenance individual will expect more. When this happens, there?s generally an unhealthy level of ego at play.
The 5 second solution: React to the bigger issue at hand, to avoid being pulled into the daily tug and pull of keeping an oversized ego at bay. David Williams outlines four steps for taming an ego here.
3 ? They could be self-sufficient. But they?re not. The task could be as simple as looking up an email address, retrieving a file, or looking up a bit of needed information over the web. But this person feels more engaged and important by making continual requests for service from others, including the boss.
The 5 second solution: Teach your team to avoid ?upward delegation? ? that their responsibility is to handle their job, not to hand pieces of it back to the boss, or heaven forbid, to the client.
4 ? They cling to stories of personal wrongs from the past. The high maintenance individual has a difficult time moving past real or imagined wrongs of the past. The faults of others become a script that plays over and over as justification for extra support, lower work expectations, or greater entitlements now.
The 5 second solution: As a leader, you do individuals locked into the ?blame game? a favor by not playing into the negativity dialogue. ?I?m sorry that happened. But you?re here now ? we appreciate and respect you ? and we have work to do.?
5 ? They talk. A lot. The high maintenance person thrives on attention. They have a continual need for others to serve as their sounding boards. While discussion and brainstorming is necessary and healthy, high maintenance people feel the need to use their co-workers as ad hoc life advisors and coaches; however they have little desire or motivation to actually hear and take the advice they receive. Mostly, they crave a listening ear.
The 5 second solution: Don?t provide one. Listen freely to collaboration and ideas?but avoid feeding someone?s need to ?make the rounds? at the office to mire in the anguishing complaints about their challenging tasks and accounts.
6 ? They are seldom satisfied. High maintenance people will see the flaws in every situation. Even when they?ve been given extra care and attention, they will invariably find something wrong with the solution or service they?ve received, or will feel the need to ask for an additional ?adjustment? in order to gratify their need to feel validated and served.
7 ? They are high-strung. Not all high-strung people are high maintenance. But the person with excessive needs will be persistently vocal and anxious about the things they require. Again ? it?s a dependency you shouldn?t encourage or feed.
8 ? They live in a state of perpetual drama. If you are around a high maintenance person for an extended period of time, you will observe frequent periods of meltdown during the course of the day. Every small inconvenience or mistake becomes a crisis. They will learn to work the internal HR system heavily at every turn.
The 5 Second solution: let the drama begin and end in HR. In the agency world, one individual became so adept at working the system, even a day off required a phone appointment with HR to ?hash out a few issues.? It was a wake up call for us all ? for a chronically high maintenance person, even their days away from the office can produce a negative energy drain. Let HR handle the situation?but when someone becomes a near full time issue, it?s a sure sign their high maintenance is an issue the company will need to address.
9 ? They handle money poorly. Regardless of the economy or circumstance, high maintenance people are perpetually in debt. No matter their income, their living expenditures and needs are invariably more. They expend an exceptional amount of stress and energy dealing with past due accounts and the perpetual juggling act to use this month?s income to cover last month?s bills.
The 5 Second solution: Discipline yourself to be a company that covers its own expenses, and spend only what the business can afford to pay for in cash. The environment of discipline as opposed to the perpetual anxiety for ?more? can carry over to help employees learn to manage their personal expenses better as well. In any case, work to prevent employees from making the office a perpetual sounding board for their personal ?woes."
10 ? They place a high importance on material status. The entitlement aspect of high maintenance people leads them to be keenly focused on the belongings or the status of others as well. This trait can infect the highest people in the organization, such as the CEO who demands that every company event include the provision of free upgrades and presidential suites at no additional cost. Ironically, the focus on material possessions and status is actually the sign of insecurity and of a low self-esteem.
The 5 Second solution: To keep these behaviors from derailing their company culture, the best example must come from the top. A leader who avoids flaunting material status and is willing to do for the company what is expected of others does a great deal to enhance the working culture for all.
11 ? They are obsessed with details?theirs and yours. They are highly focused on the too-much-information and none-of-your-business particulars of your life and also of theirs.
The 5 second solution: Learn to set and maintain appropriate boundaries with these personality types. As a reminder to all in a company, great people talk about ideas?but small people focus their talk on other people or ?things?. Change the subject as many times as needed until the idea of a higher level of thinking and acting can thrive.
12 ? They seem ?unsettled.? The high maintenance person is constantly ill at ease, buying, altering or discarding possessions and complaining about their work or living conditions. The details that are non-issues to others are insurmountable hurdles to them. Happiness perpetually evades them.
13 ? They resent authority are often critical of others. It is extremely difficult for these individuals to respect authority or to see the bigger picture. Instead, they hold fast to their opinions of the support they need and the credit they should receive in order to fulfill their assignments. Passive aggressive behavior is paramount (undermining the boss by spreading unrest or ill will ? often veiling the bad behavior in an aura of superiority or nobility).
The 5 Second solution: Generally, in a case like this, there is direct intervention required. Remind the individual that if they can?t respect the boss and someone must leave?generally, it won?t be the boss. Find a constructive way to address what ails you?change the trend for the better?get along?or consider a move or a change for the long term. But in the world of business, undermining the boss will hurt the perpetrator far more than the target, even if the resentment is justified.
By now you should be detecting a pattern of traits so apparent they are even humorous.
As an employer, however, I?m not laughing?I?m recognizing that much of the impetus lies with the boss or employer to vet prospective employees for emotional maturity (what author Dan Goleman refers to as ?Emotional IQ?) in making great hires. Alan Hall gives great advice on hiring as well, in his Forbes article and eBook the 7 C?s: How to Find and Hire Great Employees.
Responsibility lies with the company to create and reinforce a positive culture. Do you have a working environment that allows bad behaviors to take hold and fester? Do you actively feed and reward the positive behaviors? Do you set a good example yourself?
If your company is already infected, you should deal with the situation directly. In some cases, you may succeed in helping these individuals to find their better nature and make a positive change. Nothing is more rewarding than turning a negative pattern around. However, in some cases the toxicity may be so deeply embedded that the only way to deal effectively is to simply refuse to engage. You will need to be firm. You may even need to part ways.

Manhunt for Vegas shooter widens to East Coast
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A manhunt has widened to southeastern U.S. states for a 26-year-old ex-convict identified as the prime suspect in a shooting and fiery crash that killed three last week on the Las Vegas Strip, police said Monday.
Ammar Harris used to live in South Carolina and Georgia, he was convicted in Atlanta in 2005 of marijuana possession, and he was arrested in Miami in December on a reckless driving charge, according to public records.
Harris also was arrested in June 2010 in Las Vegas on pandering, kidnapping, sex assault and coercion charges stemming from allegations that he was a pimp. He sometimes goes by the name Ammar Asim Faruq Harris.
Investigators believe Harris was the driver and the gunman who fired shots from a black Range Rover SUV into a Maserati, killing an aspiring rapper and causing a crash and explosion that killed two people when a taxi exploded in a fireball before dawn Thursday at the heart of the Strip.
"We have him identified," Las Vegas police Capt. Chris Jones said. "Now the focus is on locating and apprehending him. We're getting help all over the place."
A SWAT team didn't find Harris at his home after the SUV was found parked Saturday in the garage of a gated apartment complex a couple of blocks east of the Strip.
The SUV had been sought as the getaway vehicle in the shooting and six-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Las Vegas Boulevard near the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Bally's and Flamingo resorts.
Kenneth Wayne Cherry Jr. was mortally wounded when the dark gray Maserati he was driving was peppered by gunfire from the SUV. Taxi driver Michael Boldon and passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund of Maple Valley, Wash., died in the taxi.
Police say the triple homicide stemmed from an altercation between Cherry and Harris in a valet area of the upscale Aria resort a block south of the crash scene at Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road.
A passenger in the Maserati was wounded in the arm, and four people from four other vehicles were treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the crash
Police released a photo of Harris taken following his arrest in Las Vegas in the prostitution case. The disposition of the case wasn't immediately known.
The photo showed Harris with tattoos on his right cheek and words on his neck above an image that appeared to depict an owl with blackened eyes. Jones said Harris should be considered armed and dangerous.
Las Vegas police sought help during the search for the Range Rover from local and federal authorities in Nevada and neighboring states of Arizona, California and Utah.

Linpus Gesture2Launch brings neat, customizable touch control to Windows 8 (hands-on)
You might remember Linpus from its various Linux projects, but these days the outfit is getting into apps in a big way. We've just been hands-on with its latest offering, Gesture2Launch, a straightforward concept that could prove seriously useful to those with Windows 8 touch-enabled devices. The current app has default gestures that can be assigned to an array of functions -- both to launch applications and to trigger system actions. Most of the gestures are based on letters, so to launch the calculator you'd just bring up the charms bar (which primes the system for your input) and then draw the letter 'C'. An upside-down 'U' would bring up the lock screen.
The version we played with, however, takes things a step further. It lets you create your own gestures, which ought to make them a tad easier to remember. This feature should be added soon, but for now you can see how we fared with the app in the video after the break (demoed on a rather nice Acer Aspire S7) and then it try out free-of-charge via the link below. It leaves us wondering why Microsoft didn't implement something like this out of the box.

Scientists find surprising new influence on cancer genes
Feb. 24, 2013 ? Small stretches of DNA in the human genome are known as "pseudogenes" because, while their sequences are nearly identical to those of various genes, they have long been thought to be non-coding "junk" DNA.
But now, a new study led by scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) shows how pseudogenes can regulate the activity of a cancer-related gene called PTEN. The study also shows that pseudogenes can be targeted to control PTEN's activity.
Published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, the team's findings suggest a much larger role for pseudogenes than previously thought -- a discovery that changes our understanding of the internal landscape of living cells, adding a new layer of complexity to an already crowded topography marked by multiple, overlapping, interacting gene networks.
Understanding how pseudogenes interact and control gene networks in the human body may lead to new ways of addressing diseases tied to problems that arise due to disruptions in these gene networks, said TSRI scientist Kevin Morris, PhD, who led the research in collaboration with scientists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
"This has improved our knowledge of how genes in cancer are regulated and how we may now be able to control them," Morris said.
Genes and Pseudogenes at Work
The focus of the human genome project, which decoded our entire DNA sequence a decade ago, was largely on genes -- the genetic sequences that encode proteins and thus control processes that govern and regulate all biological functions. But these genes are only a small part of the genome. The vast majority of DNA in the human genome is non-coding, meaning that it does not make protein.
In the early days of molecular biology, scientists called these vast stretches of DNA "junk" because of their presumed inactivity. Pseudogenes, which make up vast swaths of non-coding DNA, were considered part of the junk -- even though they resembled genes -- because they did not code for proteins.
The results from the new study contradict that view by showing these bits of genetic material playing a profound role in controlling the activity of human genes. The control or loss of control of genes can make the difference between healthy and diseased tissue. In cancer, for instance, some genes become more active, while other genes that should normally shut down a cancerous growth become suppressed.
In the new work, Morris and his colleagues showed that pseudogenes can influence the activity of a human gene known as the phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN). PTEN has long been implicated in cancer and is categorized as a "tumor suppressor" gene, meaning that it has the ability to arrest the growth of a tumor. But in many forms of cancer, PTEN is shut down, allowing the tumor to grow unchecked.
Intriguing Possibilities
Morris and his colleagues found that pseudogenes sharing sequences in common with PTEN can regulate the gene in two ways -- knocking it down by suppressing the "promoter" for the PTEN gene, preventing the gene from being expressed, or soaking up PTEN-targeted regulatory micro-RNAs affecting the PTEN protein after the gene transcripts have been expressed.
Some companies are already looking at pseudogenes such as PTEN as targets of potential new drugs, Morris said, and the new work is a proof of principle that targeting pseudogenes can modulate the growth of cancer cells grown in the laboratory.
The same principle may be applicable to other diseases where the aberrant activity of a normal human gene is in play -- or in infectious diseases, as a way of shutting down certain crucial genes belonging to viruses or bacteria.
Morris noted, however, there are many practical issues with controlling pseudogenes. Designing a drug targeting pseudogenes directly would be difficult to administer with current technology, as these drugs would need to be delivered into the exact cells where they are needed without spreading to other, healthy tissues where they could be toxic.

U.S. military grounds F-35 fighter jets
The Pentagon's most expensive weapons system is going to spend some time on the bench.
The U.S. military on Friday grounded the F-35 fighter jet due to a crack in an engine component that was discovered during a routine inspection in California.
The Pentagon said in a statement that it was too early to assess the impact on the nearly $400 billion fleet of jets designed for use by the Navy, Air Force and Marines.

CBS Sports Wire: Cobbs' last-second jumper gives Cal win over Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. -- Even after an uneven performance, Justin Cobbs got his wish.
With the score tied and time running out, Cobbs drained a long jump shot with 0.7 seconds left to send California past No. 23 Oregon 48-46 on Thursday night.
The shot, which came after the Golden Bears (17-9, 9-5 Pac-12) ran nearly all of the final 26 seconds off the clock, hit nothing but net.
"Pure as the driven snow," Cal coach Mike Montgomery said.
The shot was bit of redemption for Cobbs, who had a team-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists. But the junior guard also had a team-high eight turnovers.
But with the game on the line, he asked for the ball.
"Just the whole game I felt like I had a lot of mental lapses and I owed it to my team," Cobbs said. "I've been working on my jump shot a lot and I knew if I got the ball in the right spot I'd be able to knock it down."
Allen Crabbe, the Pac-12's leading scorer, had 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Richard Solomon also had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Arsalan Kazemi had 11 points and a season-high 18 rebounds for the Ducks (21-6, 10-4), who lost their 11th straight game to the Bears. Carlos Emory scored 13 points for Oregon, which hasn't beaten Cal since Feb. 9, 2008.
Oregon lost sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 with the loss. The Ducks are tied with Arizona.
Cal, meanwhile, continued its climb up the rankings with its sixth win in seven games. The Bears are tied with Arizona State for third place, one game behind the Ducks and Wildcats.
"The last game against California, I told Coach I let him down, I didn't play my best," said Kazemi, who had 10 points and six rebounds in a 58-54 loss to Cal three weeks ago. "And it really hurts right now sitting here and not winning this game."
The Ducks' season-low 27.6 percent shooting led to a season low in points. Oregon was 16 for 58 from the field, 2 for 15 from 3-point range and 12 for 20 from the free throw line.
"That's really a disappointing loss," said Oregon coach Dana Altman, who was going for his 600th career win. "The guys played awfully hard, but you got to hit some shots. We had some open looks and didn't knock them down."
Oregon, which led 26-21 at halftime, was up 46-43 with 2:06 to play when Robert Thurman recorded a three-point play for Cal on a dunk and free throw to tie it.
Oregon had possession with under a minute to play but missed on two shots before Cal got the rebound and called a timeout with 26.3 seconds left.
In the huddle, Cobbs asked for the final shot.
"He wanted it, he felt it, he said, `Give me the ball. Give me the ball,"' Montgomery said. "He made that shot. It was fabulous."
Cal trailed by 11 points in the first half but came back to tie the score 29-29 on a dunk by Thurman 4 minutes into the second half.
Oregon went back up 37-33 on a free throw and 3-pointer by E.J. Singler, but the Bears followed with a 6-0 run and Cobbs hit a jumper to put them up 39-37 with 7:12 to play. It was Cal's first lead since early in the first half.
Trailing 41-39, Oregon followed with five straight points to go ahead 44-41 with 3:30 to play, setting the stage for Cal's final heroics.
Kazemi had 14 rebounds and six points in the first half, and Emory sparked Oregon early after Cal scored the first six points of the game.
The senior forward came off the bench to score nine points in a 16-2 run that put the Ducks up 16-8 at the 10:18 mark.
Each goaltender made outstanding saves later in the second to keep the game at 2-2. Schneider made a nice skate save on Benn at 12:55 and Nilstorp denied Burrows' breakaway attempt at 17:35.
I saw him at the side, thought maybe he would tip it and sure enough, he pulls it," Schneider said. "Somehow I swung my leg around and got a toe on it. It was a little bit of luck, but I was able to stay with him."

Sabres fire coach Lindy Ruff after 6-10-1 start
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ? The Buffalo Sabres have fired coach Lindy Ruff as a result of the team's inconsistent start to the season.
The announcement was made on the team's Twitter account and confirmed by Sabres spokesman Michael Gilbert on Wednesday. Ruff was relieved of his duties shortly after the team held a 90-minute practice, and a day after the Sabres were booed several times by their home fans during a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
The Sabres (6-10-1) have gone 4-10-1 since opening the season winning their first two games.
With a 571-432-162 record, Ruff was the team's winningest coach.

Bullied children can suffer lasting psychological harm as adults
Feb. 20, 2013 ? Bullied children grow into adults who are at increased risk of developing anxiety disorders, depression and suicidal thoughts, according to a study led by researchers at Duke Medicine.
The findings, based on more than 20 years of data from a large group of participants initially enrolled as adolescents, are the most definitive to date in establishing the long-term psychological effects of bullying.
Published online Feb. 20, 2013, in JAMA Psychiatry, the study belies a common perception that bullying, while hurtful, inflicts a fleeting injury that victims outgrow.
"We were surprised at how profoundly bullying affects a person's long-term functioning," said William E. Copeland, PhD, assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University and lead author of the study. "This psychological damage doesn't just go away because a person grew up and is no longer bullied. This is something that stays with them. If we can address this now, we can prevent a whole host of problems down the road."
A previous longitudinal study of bullied children, conducted in Finland, found mixed results, concluding that boys had few lasting problems, while girls suffered more long-term psychological harm. That study, however, relied on registry data in the health system that didn't fully capture psychiatric records.
Copeland and colleagues had a much richer data set. Using the Great Smoky Mountain Study, the research team tapped a population-based sample of 1,420 children ages 9, 11 and 13 from 11 counties in western North Carolina. Initially enrolled in 1993, the children and their parents or caregivers were interviewed annually until the youngsters turned 16, and then periodically thereafter.
At each assessment until age 16, the child and caregiver were asked, among other things, whether the child had been bullied or teased or had bullied others in the three months immediately prior to the interview.
A total of 421 child or adolescent participants -- 26 percent of the children -- reported being bullied at least once; 887 said they suffered no such abuse. Boys and girls reported incidents at about the same rate. Nearly 200 youngsters, or 9.5 percent, acknowledged bullying others; 112 were bullies only, while 86 were both bullies and victims.
Of the original 1,420 children, more than 1,270 were followed up into adulthood. The subsequent interviews included questions about the participants' psychological health.
As adults, those who said they had been bullied, plus those who were both victims and aggressors, were at higher risk for psychiatric disorders compared with those with no history of being bullied. The young people who were only victims had higher levels of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, generalized anxiety, panic disorder and agoraphobia.
Those who were both bullies and victims had higher levels of all anxiety and depressive disorders, plus the highest levels of suicidal thoughts, depressive disorders, generalized anxiety and panic disorder. Bullies were also at increased risk for antisocial personality disorder.
The researchers were able to sort out confounding factors that might have contributed to psychiatric disorders, including poverty, abuse and an unstable or dysfunctional home life.
"Bullying is potentially a problem for bullies as well as for victims," said senior author E. Jane Costello, PhD, associate director of research at Duke's Center for Child and Family Policy. "Bullying, which we tend to think of as a normal and not terribly important part of childhood, turns out to have the potential for very serious consequences for children, adolescents and adults."
Costello and Copeland said they would continue their analysis, with future studies exploring the role sexual orientation plays in bullying and victimization.
In addition to Costello and Copeland, study authors include Adrian Angold of Duke and Dieter Wolke of the University of Warwick, Coventry, England.

Armstrong declines to meet with doping agency
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Lance Armstrong will not do a tell-all interview under oath with the agency that exposed his performance-enhancing drug use and took his seven Tour de France titles.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency had told Armstrong he would have to reveal all knows about doping in cycling ? a process officials expected would take several days ? if he wanted to reduce his lifetime ban from sports.
Wednesday was the latest deadline for Armstrong to decide on USADA's offer. After negotiating with the agency for two months, he refused.
Armstrong attorney Tim Herman said the cyclist "will not participate in USADA's efforts to selectively conduct American prosecutions that only demonize selected individuals while failing to address the 95 percent of the sport over which USADA has no jurisdiction."
USADA chief executive Travis Tygart said the agency had expected Armstrong would agree to talk and would be "moving on" without him.
"Over the last few weeks he has led us to believe that he wanted to come in and assist USADA, but was worried of potential criminal and civil liability if he did so," Tygart said. "Today we learned from the media that Mr. Armstrong is choosing not to come in and be truthful and that he will not take the opportunity to work toward righting his wrongs in sport."
Herman has said Armstrong is willing to participate in an international effort to clean up cycling, an effort that has broken down in spats between the International Cycling Union, the sport's governing body, and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
"He will be the first man through the door, and once inside will answer every question, at an international tribunal formed to comprehensively address pro cycling, an almost exclusively European sport," Herman said.
For more than a decade, Armstrong denied using performance-enhancing drugs. But last year, USADA released a report that detailed extensive doping on his Tour de France-winning teams and stripped him of those victories. Armstrong then admitted last month in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that he doped to win those races.
Tygart has accused Armstrong of lying in portions of that interview, most notably Armstrong's claim that he raced clean when he came out of retirement in 2009-2010. USADA's report says blood evidence shows Armstrong cheated during his comeback.
USADA also wants to question Armstrong under oath about whether cycling officials helped him cover up positive drug tests during his career, charges he continues to deny.
Beyond his problems with USADA, Armstrong still faces several legal challenges.
Armstrong was the subject of a two-year federal grand jury investigation that was dropped a year ago without an indictment, but the Department of Justice is still considering whether to join a federal whistle-blower lawsuit filed by former Armstrong teammate Floyd Landis.
Armstrong also has been sued by a Dallas-based SCA Promotions to recover more than $12 million in bonuses. And he has been sued by The Sunday Times in London to recover a libel judgment that the cyclist won against the paper.
Armstrong's latest decision means he won't risk the legal exposure a sworn interview with USADA might create for those cases or new ones yet to come. The possibility of reducing his ban likely carried little incentive for the 41-year-old Armstrong, who had moved his athletic career into running and competing in triathlons.
Under international anti-doping rules, Armstrong's lifetime ban could only be reduced to eight years, by which time Armstrong will be nearly 50 years old.

City girls turn to Twitter help on road trip
In the old days all you'd have is a map and maybe a few tips from the local hotel owner.
But now if you're planning your dream road trip through far west NSW, you can just ask Facebook and Twitter and plan it all out that way.
Self-confessed city girl Kathleen Swinbourne explains how she found herself out bush and shares some of the most useful tips from Twittersphere.
"I met a man, the hunting, shooting, fishing type and he dragged me kicking and screaming into the outback and I was hooked."
"I went and caught up with my best friend in Sydney and said 'let's go to Broken Hill'."
Once the decision was made, Kathleen turned to social media for some help.
"Love Twitter, you find out so much. I knew I was coming into Broken Hill, I tweeted ?ok people going to camp in Broken Hill, where do we go?? ?
And it wasn?t long before helpful tweets poured in.
?I got responses back on the best places to camp, where not to go - I even heard the best place to go for coffee."
Being new to putting up tents, the girls headed to a spot that was a hot Twitter tip.
?We went out to Silverton, out to Penrose Park...tent pegs didn?t go all the way in and that night the wind came up and we thought we were going to get blown away.?
Kathleen even asked for advice on the country 'wave' when passing the occassional driver down long, lonely roads.
?First time I was so excited, I?m watching this car coming and saying ok calm down, be nonchalant?I casually lifted two fingers off that steering wheel?and they didn?t wave back and I was so disappointed.?
Another car came along so Kathleen tried again.
"I lifted two fingers and they didn?t wave back either."
But it didn?t take long before things turned around.
?I finally got someone who did wave back and he waved like an excited 10 year old...I don?t know if he was waving at me or just at a fly.?
But not all travelling advice was followed.
?We were told not to go to Wilcannia ? in the city you hear a lot of negative things - but I was surprised when I got out to the country, people were saying the same things."
?Being the contrary type, we had to go to Wilcannia, and (we) were really surprised at what a pretty place it is; nestled on the Darling (River) with old colonial buildings and friendly locals.
So what advice do these city girls have for other city girls who are thinking of giving up their five-star lives for some outback adventure?
?It?s an amazing part of the world? your tent might blow down the first night but you?ll put it up the second night - just go for it.?

A big rescue and clean-up operation involving more than 9,000 workers is going on in the Ural mountains following Friday's meteor strike, Russia's emergencies ministry says.
President Vladimir Putin ordered the operation to help some 1,200 people who were injured, including 200 children, mostly by shattered glass.
The shockwave damaged an estimated 200,000 sq m (50 acres) of windows.
Russian officials put the cost of the damage at about 1bn roubles ($33m).

A large fragment was thought to have landed in a frozen lake near Chebarkul, a town in the Chelyabinsk region. A Russian army spokesman said a crater 6m (20ft) wide had been found there.

However, a group of six divers inspected the bottom of the lake on Saturday and discovered no fragments amid the sludge.
It's thought the search for the meteorite will be delayed until the ice melts in the spring.
Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said there was no confirmation yet that any fragments had been found across the region.
Mr Puchkov toured Chelyabinsk city on Saturday to assess the damage.
He said: "We have a special team working... that is now assessing the seismic stability of buildings. We will be especially careful about switching the gas back on."
More than 9,000 people are working to clear up the damage in the Chelyabinsk region. Most are locals, but some 1,800 people came from neighbouring regions.
Mr Putin said he had thanked God that no big fragments of the 10-tonne meteor - which was thought to be made of iron and travelling at some 30 km (19 miles) per second - had fallen in populated areas.
It had entered the Earth's atmosphere and broke apart 30-50 km (20-30 miles) above ground, according to Russia's Academy of Sciences, releasing several kilotons of energy - the equivalent of a small atomic weapon.
The emergencies ministry urged calm, saying background radiation levels were normal after what it described as a "meteorite shower in the form of fireballs".

Some 50 people remain in hospital for treatment - mainly for cuts and bruises from shattered glass.
'Little explosions'The Chelyabinsk region, about 1,500km east of Moscow, is home to many factories, a nuclear power plant and the Mayak atomic waste storage and treatment centre.
The shockwave blew out windows in more than 4,000 buildings in the region.
Regional governor Mikhail Yurevich said damage was estimated at 1bn roubles but dismissed as a "journalistic spoof" reports in Russian media that people had deliberately shattered windows to claim on meteorite-related insurance.
Many children were in classrooms when the meteor fell at around 09:20 (03:20 GMT).
Video posted online showed frightened, screaming youngsters at one Chelyabinsk school, where corridors were littered with broken glass.
Chelyabinsk resident Sergei Serskov told BBC News the city had felt like a "war zone" for 20 to 30 minutes.
"I was in the office when suddenly I saw a really bright flash in the window in front of me," he said.

"Then I smelt fumes. I looked out the window and saw a huge line of smoke, like you get from a plane but many times bigger."
"A few minutes later the window suddenly came open and there was a huge explosion, followed by lots of little explosions."
Scientists have played down suggestions that there is any link between the event in the Urals and 2012 DA14, an asteroid which raced past the Earth later on Friday at a distance of just 27,700km (17,200 miles) - the closest ever for an object of that size.
Such meteor strikes are rare in Russia but one is thought to have devastated an area of more than 2,000 sq km (770 sq m) in Siberia in 1908.
