Rob Gronkowski Wants to Take Tim Tebow's Virginity

Tim Tebow is now a member of The New York Jets, meaning he's a divisional rival of Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

But the All-Pro appeared at the University of Rhode Island last night and expressed nothing but love for the polarizing quarterback. Sort of.

Playing the game "Boff, Marry, Kill" with an audience member, Gronkowski was given the options of Rex Ryan, Betty White or Tebow. And he wasted little time in choosing Tebow for the former act, explaining why in this video from the event:

'Dateline NBC' series puts parental maxims to test

NEW YORK (AP) ? Correspondent Natalie Morales ended up in tears when she put herself and her 8-year-old son through the same parenting test that "Dateline NBC" is subjecting others to for a series that starts Sunday.

Using hidden cameras and actors, the network set up scenarios to see if kids really follow their parents' instructions to avoid strangers, don't get into a car with a drunk driver or don't cheat.

The results will probably depress you.

Time and again, children gave their names and addresses to a "stranger" who had taken their picture and talked about putting them on TV. Promised free ice cream, they climbed into a van driven by an actor who could easily close the door on them and speed away. Parents watched it all on monitors nearby.

"I would have lost my money if I put a bet on it," one cringing parent said after watching a youngster climb into a car with an actor pretending to be drunk behind the wheel.

For four consecutive Sunday nights, "Dateline NBC" will show the scenarios, which also test whether kids would cheat or discriminate if given the opportunity. NBC hopes parents and children watch the programs together and discuss them, said Liz Cole, executive producer of "Dateline."

Four mothers who work at "Dateline" came up with the idea, an outgrowth of a show on bullying that aired last year. Not "news" in the strict sense, these types of shows tend to do well for newsmagazines: ABC's "What Would You Do" series on "Primetime," which sets up various social experiments, is particularly popular among younger viewers, which news shows have trouble reaching.

"It's reality TV at its best," Morales said, "because these are truly teachable moments."

During the special on driving, several teenagers swear to their parents that they never text or talk on their cellphones when behind the wheel. Their cars were equipped with cameras for a few months, and even though they knew they were being watched, most youngsters exhibited the behavior they said they would never do.

The teens were also set up with actors who pretended to be drunk or high on drugs. Despite the doubt on many faces, most let the actor grab the keys and get behind the wheel. It's the power of peer pressure; too many youngsters go along with the crowd unless someone is strong enough to take a stand. In the "Dateline" episode, a girl whose uncle was killed in a drunk driving accident was the strong one.

Parents need to be persistent and specific with their instructions, the "Dateline" experts said, and be mindful of their own behavior. If you don't want your children to text and drive, don't do it yourself.

"We've all had that moment when kids are throwing back what you should or shouldn't do to your face," Morales said.

Aside from not getting into vans or giving out personal information to strangers, one tip "Dateline" offers regarding strangers is for children to stand up and look straight into the person's eyes. Confidence could scare away someone looking to prey on a vulnerable person.

Watching their children via the hidden cameras is frequently nerve-racking and emotional. "Dateline" dials up the drama, with Morales saying it "could be their worst parenting nightmare or their proudest moment."

She doesn't shy away from the experience herself, setting up her son Josh in the experiment with the actor driving the ice cream truck. "It's hard for me to watch," she said, before the tears flowed.

Did she cry because her son had learned his lessons well or forgot them?

That's a "Dateline NBC" mystery to be revealed Sunday.

Canonical prepping to launch Ubuntu as smartphone OS?

Canonical prepping to launch Ubuntu as smartphone OS?
Crawling the job posting boards over at Canonical turns up a pretty interesting position, one for a Business Development Manager (Ubuntu Phone OS). Now, we're not quite ready to jump to any conclusions here, but the wording of the listing is quite intriguing. The group is looking for a "business development lead to engage and develop strong relationships with industry partners in the run up to the launch of Ubuntu as a smartphone operating system," with the goal of "establish[ing] a commercial ecosystem around Ubuntu as a smartphone OS." Does this mean that Ubuntu is preparing to take on Android and iOS in the battle for smartphone supremacy (or, more likely, take on Windows Phone in a competition of also rans)? Honestly, we're not sure. The wording is quite vague, and it could simply be the company is referring to Ubuntu for Android. We've contacted Canonical for comment and we'll update if we get any clarification.

[Thanks, Mo]

UPDATES IN MICHIGAN FAMILY LAW: Military Deployment or ...

I often represent service members who have family law issues. I'm sure no one will disagree, though, that SMs don't usually have the financial resources for expensive divorce litigation. If the issues are not complex (for example, do not involve child custody or parenting time, or do not involve a claim regarding any rights to retirement benefits because the marriage is very short and it's easier in the long run to offset a retirement claim against another asset), there are times when SMs can help themselves. It's not something I recommend that an SM do, however, without first taking a careful look at the issues and perhaps scheduling an appointment with an experienced family law attorney.

Issue One:??? Child custody and parenting time:????????The issue of child custody and parenting time should be handled by a family lawyer who is experienced in the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act. I've seen some real messes created by lawyers who think that it's OK to file a divorce in the SM's "home-of-record" state. That's certainly true if there are no children. It is absolutely not the right thing to do--except with careful guidance--when child csutody and parenting time are at issue.

Child custody and parenting time issues always involve a determination of the home state of the minor child or children. The home state (where the child or children have been residing with a parent or parents for six months prior to commencement of the action) has priority over all other States to make the initial child custody determination. Thus, I would highly recommend that an SM consult with experienced counsel before filing.

Issue Two:??????? Division of military retirement. ????This is a very complicated issue and has to be done correctly. Many family law attorneys have no clue about how to do it right. Usually, however, the retirement is the most valuable asset a military family owns. Thus, this is not an issue to be lightly dealt with.

Issue Three:??? Deployments and custody:??? Once again, this can be a complicated issue that can negatively impact a service member's custodial rights. Here's a link to an excellent tip sheet on handling deployments and custody. Many states, such as Michigan, have custody laws that protect an SM's custodial rights during deployments. Usually, diplomatic negotiation of the deploying SM's primary custodial rights may achieve a result that will protect custodial rights upon return. Have an experienced family lawyer help you with negotiations if necessary.

Mark E. Sullivan, COL, USAR, Ret. has prepared some excellent materials for SMs to provide them with a large amount of valuable information. This information is not intended to substitute for a lawyer, but it will help SMs figure out some of the important issues in a divorce and, if the SM has to go it alone because he or she cannot afford a lawyer, Sullivan's guide is invaluable.

Sullivan's "legal eagle" series of lay-people friendly guides can be accessed here:

World News - North Koreans desperate for Western approval of launch

The country's satellite is poised to launch to commemorate the 100th birthday of Kim Il-sung, but there are some doubts over whether it will ever go into orbit. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

By Ed Flanagan, NBC News Producer

PYONGYANG, North Korea ? With just one day before North Korea?s expected controversial satellite launch to commemorate the 100th birthday of ?Great Leader? Kim Il-sung, the government invited journalists to view its Mission Control ? the nerve center where the rocket and satellite will be monitored and guided from.

Coming after a press conference the day before, this was likely our last preview of preparations before launch. It was important because it gave us a critical view of the real operators of the satellite.?

Following the visit, NBC News sat down with 22-year NASA Mission Control veteran and NBC space consultant James Oberg to discuss what he learned from this visit and his expectations for the launch.

First off, what were your impressions of the Control Center? Was it as you expected it to be?
It looked like a real control center ? from the outside as well as the inside. First the communications links ? two communications domes and a pretty hefty antenna farm on top of the hill ? looked real, and inside the displays appeared logical and made sense to me.

Digitalglobe / via AFP - Getty Images

This DigitalGlobe satellite image obtained April 11, 2012, shows an image of the Tongchang-ri Launch Facility in North Korea. This image was taken April 9, 2012.

One difference: There was a big sign outside the building here that I found out didn?t actually say Mission Control Center; instead, it said, ?Everyone follow the leadership of the Great General.?

The director of the center made a short speech and then specifically called for you to come to the front of the press scrum to witness everything. What was that like for you?
It was certainly flattering, but clearly also an attempt at manipulation because he asked me to endorse his claim that the satellite launch was peaceful. Still, I recognized it as a gesture of respect for the American space program, for which I am the only representative to have ever visited the North Korean space program, though completely unauthorized officially by NASA.

For a while there, it seemed like there were as many North Korean cameras focused on you as foreign ones. Did you expect all that attention today?
No, I didn?t. But when you think about it and realize how desperate the North Koreans are for the appearance of Western approval, they?re bound to look for it wherever they can get it. Just the presence of this press corps, not just me, is interpreted as a sign of foreign respect for the program.

Some might view your presence at the launch center as a convenient propaganda prop for their claims. How do you respond to that?
They certainly felt it was. But I was able to use the visibility to raise some questions they had not yet answered to my satisfaction. I stressed that the boasted transparency of the North Koreans was nowhere near complete and that we didn?t have reliable insight into what was under the nose cone of that rocket.

The director joked about letting one journalist ride on the rocket. I told him that photographs of the installation of the satellite would be enough to dispel lingering suspicions, including in my own mind. He promised to provide them, but I?m not holding my breath.

One of your primary questions over the last couple of days has been how soon after launch would we start to receive radio signals from the satellite to confirm its success. Do you feel you got an adequate answer on that?
Absolutely. The director gave an answer that was totally consistent with my own calculations that it might be up to 12 hours before they get a good solid communications link with the satellite.

In the meantime, he enthusiastically agreed that amateur radio listeners around the world should try to pick up the signal, which he assured us would be broadcast continuously. Of course, it?s to their advantage that a foreign expert confirm the first proof of the satellite?s successful launch since controversy remains over the success of their [previous] satellite launch, which they still insist was successful against all other evidence.

At one point you asked where the equivalent of your old console would be in the control room and he pointed to the orbital information station in the room, a station you manned for many years. That was pretty impressive.
Yeah, I got a kick out of that. But it?s too bad I couldn?t talk to the actual operator. Because there are still interesting ? to me, at least ? questions about some third-stage rocket steering maneuvers they seem to need during launch to get into their target orbit. We could have had a real geek-level conversation that would have blown the interpreter?s mind.

NBC?s Richard Engel, as well as other Western journalists, continued to ask North Korean officials about the military application of these rockets, but the answers were at times exasperated and sometimes sarcastic. What do you make of it?
We?re really engaged in dual disconnected monologues here, not a real conversation. The North Koreans don?t seem to understand foreign objections and act as if their pure ideological correctness deserves worldwide obedience. They?ve dug themselves deep into the true-believer?s self-delusion that disagreement is caused by stupidity and malice, a bad habit that isn?t restricted to this corner of the world. In the West we have a hard time understanding how genuinely crazy so many North Korean projects ? such as this satellite ? really may be.?

But isn?t political single-mindedness a plus for advancing a difficult effort such as space exploration?
It might seem so at first, but I?m beginning to worry that the opposite is more likely to turn out to be true.? An effective safety culture in space, or any other high-tech field, demands disobedience and independent thinking from people who detect real problems that require real solutions.

But the official North Korean reaction to difficulties looks like resorting to appeals for divine inspiration from their infallible leadership so they can bully reality to ?fit? their intentions. I can?t detect any indications of the necessary kind of critical problem-solving and that?s a bad sign.

Space programs infected by such a pathological culture, whether Soviet-era or NASA pre-Challenger [and pre-Columbia] era, or today?s North Korea, are doomed to encounter major setbacks.? As the bumper sticker warns, when it comes to human fallibility, ?Man forgives, God forgives, Nature ? never.?

This visit was likely the last satellite-related site we?ll visit before the launch itself. Any final thoughts before we begin the wait for launch time?
Opening these facilities to outside observers still strikes me as a bold and risky tactic, which I welcome. We may be able to utilize it for the good.

As the old song wisely observes, the North Koreans may not get what they WANT from this gambit ? foreign approval. But they may get what they NEED ? better foreign insight into their motives and decision-making. And that could make it all worthwhile.

Also for radio enthusiasts around the world, this could be your day to shine. The first people who will get a crack at catching the North Korean hymns the satellite will play to honor Kim Il-sung will be those in Western Australia 20 minutes after launch. About an hour after launch, the Eastern seaboard of the United States will be able to listen in.

Prince Royce ? Prelude (Featuring La Bruja) - Panic Phobia

It depends on who you ask.

What white folks would say:

- Cheaper housing in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Arizona

- There?s too much crime in California

- California is not a good place to raise a family or retire

- Quality of life has gone downhill (traffic, pollution, overcrowding, etc.)

What minorities would say is the ?real? reason:

- It?s racism, duh (white people just prefer being in charge and around other white people).

And it?s not just Southern California anymore, many whites have moved out of Northern California too. Both San Francisco and San Jose are now minority-majority cities, just like L.A. and Long Beach.

Face recognition could catch bad avatars

A POLICE car rolls up to a house where the doors and windows are smashed in, rooms are ransacked and numerous high-value items are missing. Calming the home-owner, an officer begins to investigate: "Did you see the person who did it?" The shaken victim replies: "Yes, he had massive purple dreadlocks, green lips and was dressed like Michael Jackson."

Such an unusual perpetrator would be easy to identify in the physical realm, but this break-in took place in a virtual world, where odd-looking avatars are the norm. It may sound like an odd crime, but Japanese police have previously arrested virtual muggers, and the FBI has investigated casinos based in the virtual world of Second Life.

Virtual crimes will become more common as we venture more and more into these worlds, says computer scientist Roman Yampolskiy. To prevent this, multinational defence firm Raytheon, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, has a patent pending on fusing a person's real biometrics with their 3D avatar, so you know for sure who you are speaking to in a digital world.

Yampolskiy and colleagues at the Cyber-Security Lab at the University of Louisville in Kentucky are going one step further: they are developing the field of artificial biometrics, or "artimetrics". Similar to human biometrics, artimetrics would serve to authenticate and identify non-biological agents such as avatars, physical robots or even chatbots (see "Spot the bad bot").

In Second Life, avatars are easily identified by their username, meaning police can just ask San Francisco-based Linden Labs, which runs the virtual world, to look up a particular user. But what happens when virtual worlds start running on peer-to-peer networks, leaving no central authority to appeal to? Then there would be no way of linking an avatar username to a human user.

Yampolskiy and colleagues have developed facial recognition techniques specifically tailored to avatars, since current algorithms only work on humans. "Not all avatars are human looking, and even with those that are humanoid there is a huge diversity of colour," Yampolskiy says, so his software uses those colours to improve avatar recognition.

The team also investigated matching a human face to an avatar generated from that face - previous studies show that avatars often resemble their owners. Combining their colour-based technique with existing facial recognition software produced the best results, suggesting it might be possible to track someone between the physical and virtual worlds. They will present the work at the Defense, Security, and Sensing conference in Baltimore, Maryland, this month.

Yampolskiy also plans to develop recognition algorithms for robots. He says that autonomous robots may one day - at least in Japan - become ubiquitous enough to require identification of their own, separate from humans.

Artimetrics probably have no immediately useful applications, says Tony Mansfield, a biometrics specialist at the UK's National Physical Laboratory in London. He says it is unlikely that virtual worlds or robots will ever become completely decentralised, which means companies should still be able to provide unique identifiers, rendering Yampolskiy's approach unnecessary. "This should be as easy as identifying a barcode, rather than as hard as biometrics," he says.

Spot the bad bot

Many businesses employ chatbots to handle customer queries, but criminals also use them to trick people into giving out account information, so how do you ensure you're talking to a "good" bot?

Roman Yampolskiy and colleagues at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, fed text written by chatbots into software originally designed to identify human authors and found that they were often able to recognise the chatbot responsible. Identifying chatbots that change over time proved more difficult, however.

Yampolskiy is now looking for signature features that identify particular chatbots, suggesting that software could be developed that would weed out the bad bots.

Housing group files bias complaint against Wells Fargo

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A nonprofit group on Tuesday filed a discrimination complaint with the U.S. government accusing Wells Fargo & Co. of a failure to maintain foreclosed homes in minority neighborhoods compared with those vacant properties it owns in white areas.

The complaint was filed by the National Fair Housing Alliance with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"We found that with Wells Fargo, there was a neglect of simple things -- a lack of routine maintenance and security of the property -- that just didn't happen in African American and Latino neighborhoods across the board," said Shanna Smith, president of the National Fair Housing Alliance.

The complaint stemmed from years of investigations by the group, which advocates for minorities on housing issues, into how major lenders maintain and market bank-owned properties in various real estate markets across the nation.

In its complaint filed with HUD, the group said that in an independent investigation it completed on foreclosed properties owned by Wells Fargo, disparities existed in the maintenance and marketing of vacant homes for sale in minority neighborhoods compared with those homes in white neighborhoods.

A spokesperson for HUD declined to provide any comment on the group's complaint.

Tom Goyda, a Wells Fargo spokesman, said in a statement that the institution "conducts all lending-related activities in a fair and consistent manner without regard to race, and this includes maintenance and marketing standards for all foreclosed properties."

"Regrettably, the complaint does not include specific property information that can allow us to investigate the circumstances in any of the markets they list," he said.

Wells Fargo said that when it is responsible for a property it has a department that conducts monthly inspections, completes maintenance work and secures and winterizes homes. In other instances, the bank may service the loans, but the investors who own the mortgages handle the maintenance and sale of their properties after foreclosure.

The nonprofit group evaluated foreclosed properties owned by Wells Fargo in eight cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Dayton, Ohio, Miami, Oakland, California, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. They looked at 218 foreclosed properties owned by Wells Fargo.

Included in the survey were 149 properties located in neighborhoods occupied by minority groups, of which 99 that were in predominantly African-American neighborhoods, while the remainder were populated in mostly white communities.

The group used various statistics from its investigation to allege that properties in white communities were taken much better care of. For example, the group said that 56 percent of the foreclosed properties surveyed in the minority communities had substantial amounts of trash piling up, compared with 30 percent of Wells Fargo foreclosures in white neighborhoods that had the same problem.

"I was just astonished by how poorly maintained so many of Wells Fargo properties were," said Smith. "When you drive through some of these neighborhoods of color, you would just be stunned by the overgrowth of weeds, often there's no for-sale sign in front of the house, some look completely abandoned."

In a report released by the group earlier this month, they faulted the banking industry for discrimination in the care and maintenance of foreclosures, and offered evidence of disparity in how banks keep up properties and market them in white communities compared to properties in black and Latino neighborhoods.

Whole genome breast cancer study launched by Mayo Clinic USA

The Breast Cancer Genome Guided Therapy Study (BEAUTY Project) will help physicians tailor chemotherapy to breast cancer patients based on their individual genomes and the genomes of their tumors.

Mayo Clinic researchers will obtain three whole genome sequences: one from the patients' healthy cells before treatment, and two tumor genomes ? one before chemotherapy and one after. Patients will be paired with mouse "avatars" that will help physicians identify the best treatment for each person.

"What is so exciting about this study is that it has the potential to really bring individualized medicine to our patients," says Matthew Goetz, M.D., Mayo oncologist and study co-leader. "It will transform how we conduct breast cancer research and how drug therapies are delivered to women with breast cancer."

In phase one of the BEAUTY Project, researchers will study the first 200 participants to look for common mutations that allow some tumors to adapt and thrive during chemotherapy. This information will help doctors identify new drugs and treatment strategies.

Women diagnosed with "high-risk" cancers who are scheduled to receive standard chemotherapy before surgery will have their healthy genome and their breast cancer tumor cells sequenced before treatment, and then receive the commonly prescribed chemotherapy to shrink the tumor. At surgery, the residual cancer tumor cells will be sequenced again to evaluate how they have mutated and adapted to chemotherapy.

In addition, patients' tumor tissue will be kept alive by implanting cell lines in immune-compromised mice -- before and after chemotherapy. The use of these mouse "avatars'' will let researchers study the effects of chemotherapy on individual patient tumors and identify the best treatment, without risk of harm to the patient.

"Patients are pleased after definitive breast surgery to be cancer free," says Judy Boughey, M.D., a Mayo breast surgeon and study co-leader. "Unfortunately, a subset of high-risk patients still may experience recurrence, even months or years later. We designed this study to give those patients hope that our ability to decode the genome of every patient might give us new tools to treat cancer."

Oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and genomics and cancer researchers will work together to uncover the clues to effective individualized therapies and drug discovery. The BEAUTY Project is being funded by benefactors and the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine, in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.

"We are living in an era that I never thought I'd see during my career -- when we can sequence, in real time, the entire genome of a patient and her tumor and use that information to tailor treatment to the individual patient," says Richard Weinshilboum, M.D., director of the Pharmacogenomics Program in the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine.

Together, the whole-genome sequencing data and transplanted cell lines are used to identify the gene pathways that influence individual patients' responses to chemotherapy. Armed with this deeper understanding of the genomics of cancer, doctors will be able to optimize treatment plans for individual patients.

This approach, called pharmacogenomics, is part of an ongoing effort at Mayo Clinic to personalize medicine for every patient and will help doctors prescribe the right drug for the right patient at the right dose and time. Additional work is being done in the Center for Individualized Medicine to develop clinical decision support tools to help doctors prescribe the best medication for each patient based on the latest pharmacogenomic knowledge.

Though initially being applied to breast cancer, this approach will be used in the future to study the treatment of many other types of cancer.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide

Sony (NYSE: SNE) to cut 10,000 jobs worldwideChicago, IL 4/9/12 (StreetBeat) -- Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE) will cut about 10,000 jobs worldwide over the next year as it tries to return to profit, Japanese news reports said Monday.

The Nikkei business daily and other media said Sony's decision to slash 6 percent of its work force comes as it struggles with weak TV sales and swelling losses.

Sony spokeswoman Yoko Yasukouchi wouldn't confirm the reports.
New CEO Kazuo Hirai is holding a press conference Thursday.

Sony has announced restructuring plans by selling its chemical unit. Sony is also merging its LCD panel operation with Toshiba and Hitachi. Yasukouchi said those changes could affect up to 5,000 employees who are subject to transfers.

Sony earlier this year reported a 159 billion yen ($2.1 billion) loss for the October-December quarter and more than doubled its projected loss for the full fiscal year through March 2013.

From the Bride? When a wedding planner begins to plan HER wedding, she finds it?s not as easy as one would think. This bride has been an integral part of over 300 weddings and observed each and every detail with the hope of creating the perfect day for her own. That day was Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Naples, Florida. The vision was black tie with a twist! She and her fianc? wanted the guests formal, but playful, and they carried that idea through from the seersucker-inspired wedding invitations that read ?colorful bowties requested? to the custom linen bags that were delivered to each guest?s hotel room that said, ?HOORAY? and included a customized map of Naples hotels, restaurants, shopping, and the event sites drawn by her mother. This colorful ?garden party? theme continued with the bridal party?s attire. The groom wore blue and white seersucker and a navy bow tie with Kelly green dots, the bride wore a blue pinky ring given to her by the groom the first Christmas after they met, her bouquet was surrounded by lace and buttons from her mother and grandmother?s wedding dresses, and the groomsmen wore navy suits with Kelly green and pink striped bow ties and pink pocket squares. The bridesmaids were in vibrant pink gowns with turquoise earrings, which were a wonderful find from a street vendor in New York.

The ceremony took place in a beautiful garden overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in the Port Royal neighborhood of Naples. After the guests were seated, the bride and her father were introduced by a choir soloist who sang ?At Last.?? All the bride and groom?s friends and family found this to be a fitting song choice! They were married by her father?s college roommate, an Episcopal priest in Los Angeles who was once a writer for the hit show ?M*A*S*H,? hence the comedy involved when exchanging their vows. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d?oeuvres while playing croquet with sets monogrammed with the bride and groom?s initials as they watched the sun set over the gulf. The tabletops contained antique tins filled with hot pink flowers similar to those carried by the bridesmaids.

The wedding party and guests were then transported by trolley to Caf? Lurcat, where the couple had their first date, a beautiful two story Mediterranean style building located on Fifth Avenue. As the guests entered, they were shown the seating chart, which was written on a large antique mirror, and ushered upstairs.? Soft blue lights cascaded over the hand-painted, domed ceiling, lush blue silk linens covered the tables, and thousands of candles and soft white florals placed in traditional silver and modern acrylic vases covered the tabletops. While enjoying dinner, an electric strings trio flown in from Philadelphia played, then a red velvet cake covered in white fondant cabbage roses was cut, and a special cake was presented to the bride?s father, who was also celebrating his 65th birthday. The guests were then asked to move downstairs for dancing. As they arrived, they were greeted by a cigar roller, whose presence was a gift from the bride to the groom. He loves a good cigar! The room was filled with amber light, imported crystal chandeliers, white and gold lounge furniture and a ten piece Motown band, who entertained the guests until they could dance no longer! It had all the elements of a modern day ?Great Gatsby.?? It was the perfect day!?

Nuclear-armed foes Pakistan, India talk peace over lunch

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stood together in New Delhi on Sunday, adding weight to peace efforts by the nuclear-armed foes with the first visit by a Pakistani head of state to India in seven years.

Relations have warmed since Pakistan promised its neighbor most favored nation trade status last year, although a $10 million bounty offered by Washington for a Pakistani Islamist blamed for the 2008 attacks on Mumbai has stirred old grievances.

The leaders discussed Kashmir, theater of two of three wars between India and Pakistan, as well as terrorism and trade during a 40-minute meeting on their own before sharing lunch, India's Foreign Secretary Rajan Mathai told reporters.

"We would like to have better relations with India. We have spoken on all topics that we could have spoken about and we are hoping to meet on Pakistani soil very soon," Zardari told a briefing as they emerged from Singh's residence.

Singh said he hoped to make his first visit to Pakistan at a convenient date.

"Relations between India and Pakistan should become normal. That's our common desire," he said. "We have a number of issues and we are willing to find tactical, pragmatic solutions to all those issues and that's the message that president Zardari and I would wish to convey."

Zardari then headed to the shrine in western India of a revered Sufi Muslim saint seen as a symbol of harmony between South Asia's often competing religions.

On his first visit to India as part of the 40-member delegation, Zardari's son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, stood behind the leaders, in a sign of his growing role in politics.

Mathai said Singh offered Zardari India's help in finding 124 Pakistani soldiers and 11 civilians engulfed by an avalanche on Saturday near the 6,000-meter-high (18,500-foot) Siachen glacier in Kashmir - known as the world's highest battlefield.

Zardari thanked Singh but did not immediately respond to the offer to help rescue teams, backed by helicopters and sniffer dogs combing an area one-km (half a mile) wide with snow up to 80 feet deep. Hundreds have died at Siachen over the years, mainly from the inhospitable conditions.

A foreign ministry source said the timing of any visit by Singh to Pakistan will depend on issues including a conflict over the oil-rich Sir Creek river estuary, one of their longest running disputes.

MUMBAI ATTACK

Singh told Zardari it was imperative to bring to justice the perpetrators of a 2008 attack on India's financial capital, Mumbai - a three-day gun and bomb rampage by 10 Pakistani militants that left 166 dead and derailed the peace process.

Talks only resumed last year.

The Indian prime minister raised the continued freedom of Hafiz Saeed, the Islamist suspected of masterminding the attack. Saeed will be discussed again at a forthcoming meeting between home ministry officials, Mathai said.

India is furious Pakistan has not detained Saeed, despite handing over evidence against him. Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that anyone with concrete proof to prosecute Saeed should present it to the courts.

Relaxed visa rules will be signed at the same meeting of officials. Pakistan is expected to formally designate India as a most-favored-nation later this year.

With Zardari and Singh both suffering major domestic problems, prospects are low for fixing the Kashmir stand-off.

Lasting Pakistan-India peace would go a long way to smoothing a perilous transition in Afghanistan as most NATO combat forces prepare to leave by the end of 2014.

India and Pakistan fought their most recent war in 1999, shortly after both sides declared they possessed nuclear weapons. Hundreds died on the defacto border in Kashmir before Pakistani troops and militants were forced to withdraw.

Born in a village in what is now Pakistan, Singh has pushed for peace during his two terms in office, but his efforts were knocked off track by the 2008 ouster of former President Pervez Musharraf, with whom he had built trust, and the Mumbai raids.

Informal meetings, during international cricket matches, or in this case before Zardari's pilgrimage to the Sufi shrine, have become the hallmark of Singh's diplomacy.

In November, Singh met Gilani in the Maldives and promised to open a new chapter in their history. Hopes are focused on boosting trade and tourism, and resolving the conflict at the Siachen glacier and Sir Creek in the west.

Musharraf, the last Pakistani head of state to visit India in 2005, has said both issues were as good as fixed while he was in office.
