Finance and Economic Planning Minister Amara Konneh recently vowed to weed out corruption and all forms of dishonesty at his ministry, but report that his Deputy Minister for Expenditure and Debt Management and Comptroller General are involved in drawing multiple salaries from separate government institutions at the same time is troubling.
Investigation conducted by the New Dawn Liberia revealed that the Deputy Finance Minister for Expenditure and Debt Management Madam Angela Cassell Bush received salaries from both the ministries of Foreign Affairs where she previously served and Finance where she has been appointed by the President for March and April, in the amount of $2205.88, which is clearly in violation of government financial policy.
She is said to have employed a focal person in her office, who also benefitted from similar overpayment. Internal Auditors are the Finance Ministry are said to be aware of the scandal and have accordingly informed Minister Amara Konneh, who sources said, launched an investigation into the matter immediately after he got the news.
At the same time the Comptroller General at the Finance Ministry Bull Wilson is reportedly involved in similar practice, but claims he has repaid the money to government.
The Comptroller General, who previously worked at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, is yet to respond to the scandal, but Deputy Minister Bush has reacted through a communication to Minister Konneh.
