Lane Kiffin: USC Head Coach Should Be Fired After Embarrassing Season

Before the season USC was the best team in the country. Now the Trojans aren?t even the best squad in Los Angeles. It has been an embarrassing season for USC all around, and it's time for Lane Kiffin to go.

USC fell by 10 points to crosstown rival UCLA on Saturday, and with the loss USC will fail to make a BCS bowl and has officially wasted the Matt Barkley era.

The Trojans entered the year as the No. 1 team in the land, but minor hiccups have equaled a complete fall from grace, as USC will likely fall from the rankings after their fourth loss.

Each game has been close, but the Trojans have shown an inability to close out football games despite superior talent over every team they've faced?except maybe Oregon.

But Kiffin and company have failed to win when it counts.

Against Stanford, the Trojans couldn't find a way to score late.

Against Arizona, a poor defensive showing and an unusually bad fourth quarter showing from Barkley sparked an upset.

Against the Ducks, the defense was incapable of even slowing down Oregon's attack en route to 62 points.

And finally, against the Trojans? biggest rivals, the team failed to get up for the biggest game of the year. USC fell behind 24-0 and could never quite catch up.

Should USC fire Lane Kiffin?

    Should USC fire Lane Kiffin?

  • Yes

  • No

The team never quite had the mental toughness to succeed when it counted, and that type of attitude is on the head coach.

Kiffin had more than enough talent to make a national title run, especially offensively. But he could never quite get the team to play up to par. Barkley looked out of sorts for the entirety of the year, there was no semblance of a run game and the often vaunted Monte Kiffin defense was nothing short of porous.

It may not be all Lane Kiffin's fault, but at a place like USC, it's all about winning. And he just hasn't got it done.

Add that failure on the field to his antics off it?deflating balls to gain an advantage and switching players' jerseys to confuse opposing coaches?and it equals an horrendous year.

Not only that, but things will just get worse for USC. Barkley is on his way out, and the Trojans depth will continue to dwindle as the team will be shorted on scholarships for the next two years, stemming from the Reggie Bush sanctions.

Kiffin is not the man to lead the Trojans through these tough times. He couldn't do it when things were at its brightest for USC, what makes anyone think he can do it when the times get tough?

Fans are already calling for his job, and in this case they're not overreacting.

It's time for Kiffin to exit stage left in LA. This year has been nothing short of terrible, and it's time for a change.
