General Motors, Isuzu Recall 258000 SUVs After 28 Fires Reported

Chevy and Isuzu Fire Recall

General Motors and Isuzu in Canada and the United States have issued a recall for more than 258,000 SUVs after short-circuits in power window and door locks led to 28 reports of fire.

The recall notice affects several different models of SUV from the 2006 and 2007 model years including the?Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 97-X.

No known injuries have been reported at this time.

According to officials at General Motors, the problem occurs in states and provinces where salt and other chemicals are used to clear roads in the winter. As fluid from the road clearing chemicals get inside the vehicles door, they can cause corrosion to the power-window and door-switch circuit board, causing short-circuits, broken switches, and ultimately fire.

A document posted by the National Highways Transporation Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Saturday revealed that the power-window switch will be replaced for free by dealers. Letters will be sent out to customers to make them aware of the issue, and, while the vehicles were registered for sale in 20 states and several provinces, GM has promised to honor recalls in other non-registered states.

The TrailBlazer was one of the best selling SUVs in American before it was phased out in 2009 and replaced with more efficient crossover models such as the Chevy Traverse and GMS Acadia.

General Motors also manufactured the Isuzu Ascender and was responsible for Saab SUV?s when they were still being built.

Customers can call their local dealers to setup a repair time for the faulty window switch.
