This morning, Nintendo published a press release to announce the impending launch of Nintendo TVii, the all-in-one television-content-management app for the Wii U. Shortly before the console?s release in North America on November 18, the company revealed that the app?which had been highly touted as one of the system?s selling points at its September press event?would be delayed until December. The wait, it seems, is over.
Here?s what Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime had to say about the app:
?Wii U owners have already experienced the transformative effect that the GamePad has on game play and social interaction. Nintendo TVii shows how the integrated second screen of the GamePad can also transform and enhance the TV viewing experience. Welcome to the new world of TVii.?
The press release says that the app will pull ?all of [users?] available content sources?such as a Comcast cable package or Hulu Plus subscription?into one place.? But while Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video will be integrated right from the start, Netflix integration will come sometime in early 2013 in the US. As to just how all of this will work from a practical standpoint is still something of a mystery.
I will admit, though?I?m curious. I want to see what happens. Will it simply pull my TV listings off the internet and act as a channel guide? Or will my lack of a cable box adversely affect my viewing experience? I guess I?ll find out tomorrow?
